Let Sleeping Dawgs Lie [Jenna]

My brother Ruger is definitely making himself at home.  In order to understand this post, you might need some background information.  To make me feel more a part of the family as I was in solitary confinement after my surgery, Mommy placed my crate in the family room in front of the fireplace.  I can see all the goings and doings from here.  But technically, this isn't MY crate; it's Ruger's!

Mommy purchased a new crate for Ruger that is slightly larger than mine and Dixie's because she says Ruger will be bigger than we are eventually.  I'm not sure I believe that yet.  Only time will tell.  But as all good dawg moms know, she couldn't put little bitty Ruger in this huge crate or he'd make a total mess in there and not learn to use the potty outside!  For whatever reason (probably a good sale price because Mommy loves a bargain), Ruger's crate didn't come with a divider for puppy training.  My crate came with a divider when it was purchased several years ago and Mommy actually knew where she had stored the divider!  So . . . to make a long story even longer, I'm sleeping in Ruger's new crate temporarily to give me more room to maneuver inside and Ruger's in mine until he no longer needs a divider.  Are you confused yet??

I tell you all this because I think Ruger KNOWS this crate is his . . .

He's been trying to hop in and be close to me since day one.

The past few weeks Mommy's been allowing me to have a few more liberties as my ACL has been healing and my leg's been growing stronger.  She is no longer locking the door and it stays open most of the time so I can walk in and out freely.  Unfortunately, this means Ruger can walk in and out freely too!

He's started joining me every evening when he's ready to nap.  Why?  Why me???

And even worse, he goes in there during the day all by himself!  Who does he think he is????

Do you see why I think Ruger KNOWS this is his crate???  Or maybe, and this is even weirder, maybe he just wants to spend time with me?  Could this be his way of bonding with me since I can't run around like Dixie?

Hmmmm . . . something to ponder,
Jenna

More Yummy Treats

As promised, Mommy gave us another fun summer treat . . . ICEES!!!  She says these are the cheapest treats known to man (and full of sugar).  She chose our first three flavors.  She's not sure how many flavors are in the freezer bag, but there are a LOT of colors!  She wasn't even sure of which flavors she had actually chosen for us, but just to be safe, she sampled each one for her nutritious breakfast to make sure they passed quality control!

We started with the yellow one and Mommy was pleasantly surprised to discover it was pineapple flavored!  It was her favorite of the three.  I bet next time, she'll search out one of those and keep it all to herself!

The blue flavor is still unidentified, but was yummy!  Maybe blueberry??  Who really knows?

As predicted, the red was cherry.  This was Mommy's least favorite and so we each received several bites since we didn't have to share with her!

Mommy had to hold me back so Ruger could enjoy his icee.  She says each of our names first so we'll know whose turn it is.  Personally I think if you can't keep me back, then it's fair game.  Food and tennis balls is about all Dixie will fight me for.  I know when Mommy says, "Dixie" that I need to hold myself back.  I don't have such self control where Ruger is concerned.  Mommy says Ruger will get even with me one day, but I don't see how that's possible.  Have you seen how tiny he is??

We all enjoyed our summer treats.  The thermometer is stuck in the mid to upper 90s here, so we deserved it!

Muddy Buddy

I told you recently that it had been very dry this summer where we live and then WHAM!  LOTS of rain in a short amount of time making puddles in the yard.  As you check out my muddy fun, you'll notice something else . . . WHAM!  I'm GROWING!

This is me on my second day at home.  The mud was just mud at this point and not an actual puddle.

These next pictures were taken a month and five pounds later!  Now we're talking PUDDLE!   I like to dig, dig, dig!  I pull the grass out and sling it around.  I slap my paws in the water and enjoy the splash.  Mommy says I'm ALL BOY, whatever that means!

That pot you see in the edge of the pictures is now sitting in that muddy hole in the hopes of deterring me from digging in the mud . . . it may or may not be working . . .

The downside of all my muddy fun is that I sometimes end up with a quick rinse in the kitchen sink!

It's worth it!

Yummy Treat for Me

Mommy was going through the toy box a few weeks ago and found this toy!  She got a little teary eyed when she did . . . this was one of Hunter's favorite toys as a puppy.  He used to LOVE to eat peanut butter from this toy.  He liked it so much he would bring it and drop it at Mommy's feet to ask for a refill.

I'm enjoying this toy as well.  My toy is filled with cheese and is frozen.  Daddy won't allow me to eat peanut butter (whatever that is).  Dawgs who eat peanut butter before they're a year old could develop an allergy.  That's what happened to Hunter.  He started losing hair on his tail and rear end and Mommy and the vet determined peanut butter was the cause.  Apparently they don't want me to go through that too!  So instead, I eat cheese, the canned spray kind!

I'm not to the point where I beg for more cheese yet, but I am enjoying this toy.  I usually only take notice of food when my big sisters alert me to its presence with their rush to the kitchen.  I'm just going to enjoy this treat whenever I can!

Summertime Fun!

Summer is made for fun, right?  My summer is not quite what I was hoping for since I'm laid up in the crate recovering from my surgery a good bit of the time.  Mommy has allowed me to sit around the house lately without being locked up.  Yippee!  I can almost taste the freedom!  I can go on short walks with Mommy each morning now too, but I'm not allowed to go on the big four mile walk every morning . . . sigh . . . I'm counting the days until August 1!

In the meantime, Mommy is trying to make my summer as fun as she can. She knows what a foodie I am, so she has shared watermelon with me and my siblings.  It is seriously YUMMY!!!  We've been able to enjoy watermelon on two different occasions (so far).  The first time Mommy shared watermelon with us, she used a fork.

I was very eager to try this treat!

Ruger helped with clean up!

The next time we had watermelon, Mommy used her fingers . . . did she learn nothing last October???

I'm hoping some other good summer treats come our way . . . ice cream, frozen ice pops, hamburgers, hotdogs, steak, ribs, you name it, I can eat it!  (With the exception of fingers apparently!  That seems to be frowned upon!)

Happy summer!
Jenna

PS: Happy birthday to our Daddy!  He's the best . . . except that he doesn't like his picture taken!  And happy fifth birthday to our human Cousin S on the 15th!
