Guarding Mush

When Mommy makes her lunch in the mornings, Dixie and I sit at her feet in hopes something good will fall our way.  It usually doesn't, but every once in a while we hit the jackpot.  Last week Mommy accidentally dropped a mushroom in Dixie's direction.  Dixie grabbed it up as quickly as she could to prevent me from getting my jaws on it.  Mommy just looked at me and told me to be patient.  She knows Dixie doesn't like mushrooms, and she knows I like EVERYTHING!

At first it appeared Dixie had eaten the mushroom since it was no where to be found.  But I spied it on the floor in front of her a few minutes later when she realized it wasn't a good catch.  I lunged for the mushroom, but Dixie growled at me and scarfed it up again.  Eventually Mommy saw it lying on the floor all mushed up.  She pointed it out to me and of course, I ate it.

Later, Mommy noticed Dixie had wandered away from the lunch making counter and was acting a bit strangely.  Mommy went over to see what Dixie was up to.  Dixie was apparently still on guard duty.  There must have been another dropped mushroom because Dixie had one sitting in front of her along with her ever-present tennis ball.  Mommy decided to leave Dixie alone.  Eventually she would eat it or leave it.  A few minutes later, Dixie rang the bell to go out.  On the floor by the door was the mushroom and the tennis ball.  As Mommy proceeded to open the door for her, Dixie picked up first the mushroom and then the ball!  I didn't go outside with Dixie since potential grab-and-go food was still on the kitchen counter, so I can only wonder where the mushroom went . . . did Dixie eat it or was it dropped for the critters outside?

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

PS: We thought you might be too grossed out to see pics of the mushy mushrooms!

Can You Feel It?

Can you feel it?  Step outside and take a deep breath . . . go ahead, I'll wait.  Now can you feel it?

Spring is on its way!  For some of our readers, spring has probably already sprung, but where we live it's usually very slow to arrive.  After all, it's only the first week of March!  This time last year we were receiving another big snow storm.  Mommy personally is holding out for one more snow day this year too, but I think she's going to have to give up on that dream.  I guess I can't blame her.  It's not as if she's going to have a surprise day off for a beautiful sunny day.

This past weekend, my sister and I spent lots of time outside just soaking up the sun.

Mommy even moved our outdoor dawg beds back to the edge of the deck so we could enjoy sunning ourselves.  It felt soooooo good to sit outside in the sun.

To make herself feel good (despite longing for a snow day),  Mommy put away the last of  the snow related items and brought out all of the spring and Easter decorations.  (She even removed the scarf from Flop Ear's neck.)  Our friend Max has returned to the house for the next couple of months for an extended visit.  When Daddy came home he said there had been an Easter explosion in the house.  Mommy pointed out there was only one new item.  Apparently he hadn't noticed several items acquired over the last few years!  Men!  That's probably why Max is here.  Daddy is starting to feel outnumbered with the females in this house.  Whenever we decide to expand our family, Daddy says it will definitely need to be a male dawg.  (And yes, there has been whispered conversation about a third canine, but nothing definite is planned right now.)

I hope you're able to feel a bit of spring where you are!  Enjoy!

Toy Box Heaven

We have a new toy box!  We've always enjoyed a toy box in the den, but Mommy realized we were starting to carry many toys upstairs.  Each morning she would gather up an armload and tote them back downstairs.  It's not our fault she hasn't taught us to put our toys away, is it?  Finally, she grew tired of this routine and at Mimi's suggestion, she added a toy box upstairs.   It's a basket actually and it took a while for her to find just the right one.

The only problem with the new toy box is that it tends to become a bit top heavy with all of our toys.  (The box downstairs is practically empty!)  When we go in search of that perfect toy, the new toy box tends to topple over.

Then we spread the toys everywhere!

Here's to our new toy box (and hopefully the promise of new toys)!

PS: A few days after taking these pics, one of the handles mysteriously fell off . . . wonder how that happened???   Hmmm . . .

Two Peas in a Pod

We sometimes amaze people when we go out in public.  They can't believe we are actually true sisters from the same litter.  Sometimes Mommy and Daddy can't believe it either.  They can't believe they're crazy enough to have two dawgs the same age (this really hit home when Hunter passed away)..  They also can't believe we came from the same womb.  We're sometimes as different as night and day.  But then there are times when we're like two peas in a pod!

Or two peas in our parents' bed!

Or two peas in our own individual dawgs beds! (That rarely happens.)

Two peas in Mommy's lap on a snow day?

Two peas in the foyer enjoying the sunshine coming in through the windows.

Two peas in the bathroom while Mommy dresses for work.

Two peas on guard duty.

Although we don't always see eye to eye, we'll always be SISTERS!

Love from the Black Eyed Peas!

Snow Disappointed

Life can be full of disappointments.  We learned that the hard way last week.  We were supposed to receive 4-8 inches of snow and it was supposed to snow ALL DAY on Tuesday.  Although that's nothing compared to the snowfall Jonas dumped on us a few weeks ago, the promise of a snow day was definitely in the forecast.  Well, I guess technically no one actually promised us Mommy would get to stay home, but we all believed!  Her students took home their Flurry Folders on Monday night and everything was ready!  (By completing work in the Flurry Folders, students and teachers don't have to make up a snow day later in the year.)

We woke up Tuesday to a mere two inches and no delayed start . . . BUT the promise was still there!  The forecast still called for 4-8 inches and snowfall all day.  Well, it did snow ALL DAY, however the temps were above freezing so Mommy and her students went to school ALL DAY!  [sigh]  The bulk of the snow didn't come until after 4PM when Mommy was home.  We were able to play in the snow, and we still held out for a possible snow day on Wednesday or a delayed start at the very least . . .

With a total of only 3-4 inches, Wednesday began as a Winter Wonderland, but NO delayed start and NO snow day. [SIGH]

So . . . we'll continue to hold out for another snow day this year and enjoy the few inches of snow we have while we can!

Crossing our paws,

Dino Weird

We've blogged about our love for dinosaurs before.  One of those dinosaurs has been through the wringer in recent months.  Red and Blue Stegosaurus has been living on the edge lately.  Here he is in the Jaws of Life (aka Jenna) back in the summer when he was brand new:

Poor Stegosaurus.  Jenna LOVES to carry him around inside and outside.  She even likes to play fetch with him!  He found himself in a tree back in the fall thanks to Mommy's throwing abilities (don't ever ask Granddaddy about Mommy's lack of talent in that department).

And just before Snowstorm Jonas blew in, we had rain followed by several days of frigid temps resulting in a Stegosaurus Popsicle.  You might not be able to tell in the pictures.  Look closely at how his legs are sticking straight out.  Hard as a rock!

Thankfully, after a spin in the washing machine he's as good as new!  Stegosaurus lives to see another day (much to his dismay?).

Until another dino-mite adventure!

Snow Much Fun!

Twenty inches of snow takes a WHILE to melt.  The temps have been a bit warm for this time of year, so that's helped.  We played in the snow as much as we could and thought we'd share a few more pictures with you from our adventures in snowland.  (It's finally starting to look green around here again as of this weekend.)

We played so hard I cut one of my paw pads on the ice.  Mommy says she had "shoes" for Hunter when they lived in Minnesota just for this purpose, but she's not sure where they are . . . maybe she'll dig them out if we have another snow storm.  Or we'll just continue to make the authorities think a crime has taken place in our backyard!

Mommy continued on her quest for the perfect pictures: one of Dixie and me together, a selfie of Mommy and Dixie, and a selfie of the three of us in the snow.  Results continue to be mixed.

One of the most surprising events of the snowstorm occurred on a school night at about 9:30.  Mommy was already snug in her pajamas on the sofa when Daddy decided he needed to clear a little more snow off the driveway.  While Daddy was outside, he came up with the idea that he and Mommy should make a snowman.  After begging her several times to come out and help, Mommy bundled up and their snow adventure began!

This was ALL Daddy's idea!  Daddy HATES the cold and HATES the snow!  Mommy had begged him a few times herself over the snow weekend to come out and join us in our play, but he declined.  The snowman they made was fairly small but built with love.  Love for what is the question!  Daddy calls this snowman the Special Ops Snowman.  He attached arms to hold a Coke can, but the rest was totally Mommy's idea.  She added shotgun shells for the eyes and buttons and a shemagh, the military head scarf, to complete the look.  We aren't sure what a Coke has to do with this overall "look," but we aren't asking.  Mommy says she chose the other items because they were all in the garage, and she didn't need to come back in the house (and thus rile us up).  Daddy was THRILLED with the results!

The two of them spent a while outside using the selfie tripod to try to capture the perfect shot of the three of them.  Daddy grew quite cold sitting on the snow in his jeans, but he knew he couldn't complain too much since he had begged Mommy to join him.   A few pictures and a cold bottom was a small price to pay for long-lasting memories!  (Mommy had thrown on her ski bibs, so she was good to go in the cold for hours!)

Snow much fun!

Maybe next time, they'll invite us to come out and play with them . . . [sigh]

Fireside Nap

If we're going to talk about one of us trying to fill Hunter's paws, then I guess we have to talk about me too!  I LOVE napping in front of the fireplace (with or without a fire going).  Hunter used to do the same.  Mommy kept a bed there for him to stretch out on in the evenings.  He originally had a bed with a cover made by Mimi to match the drapes in the den, but as he grew older Mommy treated him to a fabulous orthopedic dawg bed to help with his old joints.  He loved it, but he didn't always sleep on it (nor did it always stay in front of the fireplace).  He could be temperamental that way.

Since Hunter has passed, that original bed is upstairs in our parents' bedroom for me or Jenna to sleep on.  We also have upstairs the bed that Hunter only used for recreational purposes.  That bed is my choice sleeping spot if I can't be on the human bed!  The orthopedic bed is also back in its prime location in front of the fireplace.  And that's where you'll find me most evenings!

[sigh]

Here's to sweet dreams!
